Sinopsis:

Basada en una historia real, este poderoso drama nos cuenta cómo los prisioneros políticos de la sudamericana Isla de Robben (en la que Nelson Mandela estuvo recluído) intentan crear una liga de fútbol que terminará convirtiéndose en una olla de ideas políticas y culturales. La Isla de Robben - la Alcatraz de África - es más dura de lo que sus huéspedes habían imaginado. Pero a pesar de su eterno frío, sus brutales guardias y el hambre, un sentido de comunicdad y de objetivos comunes se desarrolla inesperadamente entre los prisioneros. La Asociación de Fútbol de Makana se formará bajo los principios de integración, disciplina y juego limpio y se convertirá en un microcosmos de la democracia, un campo de entrenamiento no sólo para el cuerpo sino también para el alma política. Pero mientras estos jóvenes jugadores aprenden a descargar sus frustraciones en el terreno de juego, un grupo de prisioneros forma un agresivo equipo que amenaza con destruir la atmósfera de unidad que el deporte había formado. A partir de entonces, en la Isla de Robben el fútbol se convierte en algo más que un juego.
