Debian won't put your normal account into the sudoers file by default. This
won't allow you to use sudo when you are logged in as a normal user.
So, to ^fix^ this, all you need to do is:

Fire up a terminal, type in:
------------
su #to switch to root account
------------
Place your password there. Now, we need to edit the sudoers file.
------------
nano /etc/sudoers #you can use gedit too. use the one which suits you better
------------
Scroll down a bit and you will see something this:
------------
# User privilege specifications
root ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL #this from Debian SID
------------
Now, to add your accound to the list just copy the root line, paste it below
and replace root with your username.
^USERNAME not NICKNAME or w/e
